On Wednesday, September 7, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) held a conference of the parties, which included BRCA and Reworld (Covanta). At this meeting:
- Attorneys for Reworld declined mediation, meaning that the draft permits will go to a public hearing.
- A timetable was set for the hearing and public comment process. The most important of these are:
- PUBLIC HEARING: DEEP will hold a single public hearing on the draft permits. The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 6:30 PM. The hearing will be held by Zoom only (no in-person option). Notice of the hearing will be published at least 30 days in advance. It is expected that announcement of the hearing will be published in the Bristol Press, with no public notice by DEEP or Reworld beyond that.
SAVE THE DATE ON YOUR CALENDAR and please get the word out to everybody who does not commonly read the legal notices section of the Bristol Press. - PUBLIC COMMENT: The public comment period that ended August 5, 2024 is extended through November 1, 2024. Submit comments via BRCA’s easy-to-use form. The form will e-mail you a copy of your comments; please feel free to share that with your elected officials.
